Organic Ways To Promote An Event On Facebook

Facebook allows you to send reminders to future event attendees.

Although Facebook does allow users to purchase advertisements to promote events, many marketers would agree that word-of-mouth and organic promotion are more effective tools. You can promote your Facebook events by tagging your friends in event poster images, posting the event info on your wall and recruiting event attendees to promote the event to their friends.

Tag Your Friends in an Event Poster

One of the best ways to get your friends attention on Facebook is by tagging them in a photo. You can use this to your advantage by uploading a JPEG image of a poster advertising your event. Tag every friend or individual you think might be interested attending the event. Most of the people tagged will at least look at the event poster and may want to learn more from there.

Post About the Event on Your Wall

You should post information about the event on your wall periodically. Write up several different headlines to use for the event. Do not overpost because people may become annoyed that you are overhyping the event. Posting once every few days should be sufficient. Make sure the other event planners do the same on their Facebook walls as well.

Recruit Event Attendees to Promote the Event

Send out a mass message to all those who have noted they will attend the event. Ask them to invite their own friends to the event. You might offer something as an incentive for inviting friends to the show like a discounted admission. Encourage the attendees to post the event on their walls or send private messages to friends personally inviting them to the event.

Post Event Details on Other Social Media Sites

You should streamline your promotional process across all social media platforms. Post a link to Facebook event page on Twitter, Myspace, Tumblr, etc. This can vastly increase your exposure. Many people ignore event invitations on Facebook because they get so many. They may be more likely to look at the event page if seen through Twitter or Myspace.
