You have a pretty good band but no one comes to see you play. Since future bookings depend on your draw, promotion is extremely important. Here are some ways to get your band's name out there to pack those clubs.
Instructions
1. The Internet is the new version of handing out flyers. Get on all the social networking sites and set up accounts for your band.
2. Add as much content to these sites as you can: pictures, music, links to the other sites. Then add as many friends as you can.
3. Make sure when you have a show, someone is taking pictures. Post them as soon as you can. Many people like to check out the band through their music and pictures to see if the live show looks interesting.
4. If you do not know someone who can make cool looking flyers for the Internet, post ads for art students on bulletin boards. They usually have great ideas for fresh, hip looks that will turn heads.
5. Make sure the music you record for your site sounds good. Badly recorded music makes you sound unprofessional.
6. Go to other local shows with your bandmates and make friends with other bands. They may return the favor and come to your next gig. You might even end up on a show with a great drawing band.
7. Put the money you make from shows into a band fund and buy promotional items for the band. For example, invest in stickers as a cheap way to promote your band.
8. Consider writing a band blog. If updated regularly, people will follow the goings on of your band and feel more connected.
9. Post ads looking for members to create your street team. This team will recruit people to spread the word about your band. They can be repaid with free admissions to shows, CDs, t-shirts and other merchandise.
