A brochure can lend credibility to your business or organization and can be an effective way to advertise. Professional brochures used to be expensive to design and print. With the availability of desktop publishing software and the Internet, creating your own brochures isn't a difficult process even for someone who has never done it before. If you're on a budget, you can create your own free, printable brochures without spending any money.

Online Brochure Templates
1. Locate a website that has web-based brochure design tools and templates, such as brochuremaker.com or scribus.net. You will typically be asked to create an account to use this service. Establish a user name and password to begin creating your brochure.
2. Select an online template. Click through the brochure set-up and choose colors, borders, and font style for your brochure. Some websites allow you to upload your own images. Some may require you to use the images already in the template.
3. Type the text for your brochure in the indicated template fields. You will create a title heading for your brochure as well as the text you want on each of the panels. Purchase brochure paper at an office supply store (two or three panel to match your design) and place it in your printer. Print your brochure on this paper.
Desktop Publishing Software
4. Choose a free desktop publishing software, such as serif.com or smallbusinessbible.org. Open your program and select a brochure design template to work with. Choose whether you want a two- or three-panel brochure, then click the template to open it.
5. Select the brochure template text and press the "Delete" key to remove it, then fill in your own brochure text. To change the font style, go to the "Font" menu and select the font you want to use.
6. Click on a template image and delete it, then go to the "Insert" menu and browse to the location on your computer where the image you want to use exists. Click the image to add it to your brochure. Save your finished brochure to print it on two or three panel brochure paper.
