Become A Southern Gospel Singer

A gospel singing careeer can start with a church group.

Becoming a singer takes more than learning sing. A successful singer needs an audience. If you want to sing a particular type of music, such as southern gospel, finding your audience is an essential part of achieving your southern gospel singing aspirations. With practice and persistence, you can turn your southern gospel vocal talents into a singing career.

Instructions

1. Practice your craft regularly. This means singing wherever you can, for money or even free. Churches and fairs are ideal places to look for performance opportunities. This will help you build a performance resume.

2. Visit any recording studios you may have in your area and ask to have your name placed on a call list. Having your name on the list makes you available for jobs with gospel acts that use the recording facility. Jobs might range from background vocals to a lead part. This is an ideal way to break into the business and make money doing what you love to do.

3. Build a portfolio that includes a bio, an 8 x 10 photograph of yourself and a recording. Distribute this portfolio to a manager or agent who services musicians. A manager or agent can help get you into auditions and production deals you may not be able to get into on your own.
