Beer figures into many of the activities at games in Milwaukee's Miller Park.
The Milwaukee Brewers play their home games at Miller Park in the heart of West Milwaukee. The stadium is located next to a Miller brewery, as well as Helfaer Field, a youth baseball and softball facility that uses the same field as the old Milwaukee County Stadium. Renting Helfaer Field before a Brewers' game for a big-league style ballgame could be fun way to entertain a team or hold a family reunion before going into Miller Park and watching the real thing. Other creative ideas abound at one of the most appealing ballparks in Major League Baseball.
Gameday Catering
You can bring your own sandwiches, chicken wings, beer and other items to the stadium for a pre-game tailgating event. But why go to all that trouble when you can get the masters inside the stadium to hook you and your group up with a little gameday catering? Miller Park provides upscale banquet arrangements in the stadium, as well as more casual fare at specially designated tailgate spaces.
Tour a Brewery
What pregame activity is more team-appropriate than touring a brewery before a Milwaukee Brewers game? There's a Miller brewery, naturally, right next door to the stadium. And less than four miles away is the Lakefront Brewery. Get a taste of what it really means to brew beer before you go see the baseball-playing Brewers do their best to live up to the city's famed industry.
Tour the Park
Miller Park offers tours on game days and even nongame days from April to September. The tours last about 75 minutes and include a stop by the visitors' clubhouse on nongame days. All tours are sure to stop by the Brewers' dugout and meander throughout the field and stadium for plenty of photo opportunities and an education in team and park history and trivia.
Bet on the Sausage Race
Before the bottom of the sixth inning of every Brewers' home game, five people dressed up as various sausages race around the inside of the stadium. The racing wieners include a bratwurst, Polish sausage, Italian sausage, hot dog and chorizo. It's a tradition that dates back to the 1990s, and one of the racers is declared a winner at each game. Plan on placing your bets with your friends or family at the game. The loser could buy sausages for the rest of his party or perhaps everyone who didn't win could chip in to buy the winner the sausage of his choice.
