Use the Internet to find a famous quote appropriate for an eighth grade promotion speech.
Write an eighth grade promotion speech that is focused on the future and expresses how all class members can find success by following their dreams. A promotion speech should be inspirational not only to fellow class members but also to listeners in the audience. Find a famous quote to begin the speech. Build the speech around the quote, focusing on one idea.
Instructions
1. Find a famous and inspirational quote to begin the speech. This will help you to grab the attention of the audience within the first 30 seconds. Expand the introduction for at least three to five paragraphs.
2. Outline the body of the speech, making sure to highlight and/or bullet important points. Illustrate your speech with personal experiences and the experiences of others in the eighth grade class. Add a section that thanks those people who have made it possible for the class to get to where it is. Keep the writing in chronological and logical order. Build from one point to the next.
3. Write the outline on a separate piece of paper, leaving room between the bullets to expand on each area. Turn each highlight or bullet into one to three paragraphs. Make sure to use language and phrases relevant to classmates. Keep it simple and lighthearted.
4. Write a closing to the speech after the main body is written. Summarize the content of the speech into a few concise sentences. Add more insight into the points, using specific examples. Example: The accomplishments of the athletic team correlates with the accomplishments of the class. The athletes must succeed in the classroom as well as on the playing field for the entire class to advance forward.
5. End the speech with a final thought for the entire class. Focus on future endeavors such as accomplishments or goals in high school.
6. Read the speech to a parent, parents or teacher. Be open to suggestions. Rewrite the speech in areas where it is not smooth or needs more detail.
7. Practice the speech in front of a mirror. This will eliminate the nervousness associated with speaking in front of an audience.
