Network Magic is a software tool released by Cisco/Linksys that simplifies home networking for the novice Internet user and ideal for those intimidated by complex cable routing and lengthy configuration procedures to build a working home Internet network. Network Magic detects Ethernet cables from high-speed Internet connections in order to walk you through configuring that Ethernet network. If you plug an Ethernet cable into your computer and Network Magic fails to recognize it, take a few simple troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue and get your Ethernet network up and running.
Instructions
1. Reset the network by unplugging your broadband modem as well as any home networking equipment--routers, switches, etc.--for 30 seconds and plugging them all back in. Devices that use Ethernet connection often do not recognize a new connection until the device has been reset, so check Network Magic once again after the network has fully rebooted to see if it now sees the Ethernet network.
2. Unplug the Ethernet cable that attaches the Ethernet network into your computer's Ethernet port and plug it back in. Make sure to reset the network again after plugging the Ethernet cable back in and check Network Magic once again. If there still is no recognition of the Ethernet network, the Ethernet cable may need to be replaced.
3. Navigate to your computer's network connections manager by opening the start menu and choosing "Network Connections" from the control panel menu. You may additionally need to click "Change Adapter Settings" or "Manage Network Connections" depending on which version of Windows you are using.
4. Verify the Ethernet connection by looking for a "Local Area Network" icon. If you see one, you can be almost certain that the computer's Ethernet port and Ethernet card as well as the Ethernet cord and your Internet service are all working fine and that the problem is actually with Network Magic. You will need to reinstall Network Magic or contact Linksys technical support for further assistance.
