Small Store Advertising Ideas

Advertise your small store for added exposure.

If you have a small store, you may be looking for larger ways to get the word out about your business. Chances are, you're working with a smaller budget and therefore need to get a little creative in stretch your dollars. There are a variety of methods you can use to advertise for additional exposure and traffic. These ways can not only be profitable but pleasurable as well.

Window Displays

Use window displays to capture the eye of passersby. Dressing up your storefront to showcase what you have will allow potential customers to see a sample of your inventory. Your window display should be well lit and products rotated frequently as your inventory changes. Your window display is a representation of your entire store, so you’ll want it to be as attractive as possible. Get professional signs made to increase visibility.

In-store Events

In-store parties give customers a chance to, on occasion, casually experience your store in a social atmosphere. The optimal time to host an event of this type is when you have a flux of new inventory or a particularly appealing sale. Once your event has started, create prizes and discount giveaways to actively engage your customers in your promotions. If you have an art supply store, invite a local artist to a live canvas session during your event. As a bridal salon, you may have a chat session with an event coordinator to arrange do-it-yourself centerpieces.

Networking

Make your way out in the community and meet other business owners and those they serve. Join your local Chamber of Commerce or volunteer to sit on a committee for a charitable organization. Networking is an easy way to get the word out and allow potential partners to see who you are. Offer to use your products for basket giveaways or donate small-amount gift cards.

Sponsor Small Events

Another way to get out in the community is by hosting or sponsoring small-scale events. Allocate small dollar amounts to incorporate your brand on signature events that are a direct match to your target market. If you own a vitamin shop, for example, get exposure at a local fitness or health expo. If you have a quaint liquor boutique, provide a few bottles for stage giveaways at a wine and food festival. As a sporting goods store, sponsor a banner at a high school sports championship tournament. In exchange for your sponsorship, ask for extra tickets that you can use in your store for giveaways to attract new customers and reward your key clients. Supporting local events allows you to increase your brand awareness and showcase the personality of your staff.
