First graders can have fun raising money.
Many children start learning raise money for worthy causes in the classroom. Schools and youth facilities are often in need of equipment or supplies that are not included in budgets, and sometimes teachers may organize charitable activities for their students to help others. In either situation, first graders are usually happy to participate when you organize fun and profitable fundraising activities.
Direct Sales Fundraisers
Chocolate bars are popular direct sales items.
Direct sales fundraisers are a common activity for first graders because they are very simple. However, direct sales fundraisers require an up-front payment for the chosen product. Have your school supply an inventory of chocolate candy, decorative gourmet popcorn canisters, lollipops or gift cards for local stores and restaurants. First grade students can sell the items from door to door with adult supervision, or ask friends and family members to make purchases to help the cause. Make sure that the items are clearly marked with proper pricing so children may collect accurate payments.
Catalog Order Fundraising
Supervise children selling door to door.
First grade classrooms can often raise money with no initial investment by organizing a catalog order fundraiser. Several distributors of household items publish special fundraising catalogs for schools, churches and youth groups. Have the children offer catalogs and order forms to friends, family and neighbors to order anything from candles and Christmas ornaments to gourmet steaks and desserts. Kids can take the orders with payments, provide a receipt, and deliver the items at a predetermined date. Be sure to have all the students turn in the orders and payments on time to avoid shipping delays.
Balloon-A-Gram
Balloon-a-grams are fun for first graders to deliver.
A fun idea to raise money in a first grade classroom is organizing a balloon-a-gram service. For safety and convenience, you may want to do this within the school building, but you can extend your service beyond the school if you like. Have your first graders offer blank greeting cards to other classrooms or faculty members for a flat price or donation. The buyer can then add a recipient within the building for the balloon and card, along with a personal message. The children will tie the messages to the balloons and deliver the balloon-a-grams to the specified recipients.
Rummage Sales
Rummage sales bring a 100 percent profit to your first grade class.
A rummage sale will offer your first grade classroom a 100 percent profit. Ask children, their families, neighbors and friends to donate used or unwanted items such as clothes, shoes, appliances, books, toys and records. Kids can clean and organize the items to prepare for the sale. You can price each item individually, take bids or even auction some items. Make sure to advertise your sale days or weeks in advance. Post fliers in school hallways, grocery stores, churches and anywhere else that neighborhood bulletin boards are found. With no investment and enough free advertisement, a first grade class can raise a considerable amount of money, and have a fun time doing it.
