Set Up A Promotional Products Business

Businesses are in constant need of marketing strategies that keep their names, products and services in front of potential customers. Promotional items are a great way to achieve that goal, making a promotional product business a great business idea. Here's set up a promotional products business.

Instructions

1. Decide what promotional products you'll create and for whom. Will you specialize in logo apparel or provide a wide range of promotional products? Will you work with a specific industry or general to all businesses?

2. Research printing options. Will you outsource the creation of your promotional items, or will you create them yourself? If you will outsource, research to find a company to send your promotional item creation to. If you'll be creating your products in-house, research and find the equipment needed to print promotional information on the products.

3. Form your product promotion business. Set up the business structure (e.g., an LLC) and obtain permits and licenses as required by your city/county. Other business set-up tasks include writing your business plan, setting up your office and/or facilities, buying equipment and determining your prices.

4. Write your marketing plan. Start with defining who your clients will be---what sorts of industries are they in, what is the size of their business, etc. Create marketing materials (ads, brochures, press releases, etc.) that will entice your market to use your services for promotional products. Don't forget to use your own service to promote your business by creating pens or other items you can share with potential customers. Place your marketing materials in places your market frequents, such as business associations, trade magazines and online advertising.

5. Start your business. Send out your press release and network with your contacts to jump-start your business. Follow your marketing plan. Focus on providing quality promotional products and customer service to encourage repeat customers and referrals.
