Make Money From Needlepoint

Make money by selling needlepoint designs online and at craft shows.

Needlepoint is a decorative textile art that may be used for pillows, tapestries, upholstery and other home decor items. Needlepoint artists can make money from their designs by selling their handmade products. The overhead for selling needlepoint work through online and other resources is minimal. Another way that accomplished artists can make money from needlepoint is through instruction. A variety of instructional avenues are open to needlepoint artists with an interest.

Instructions

1. Take digital pictures of your needlepoint designs. Highlight the pieces from different angles and use close-up images to illustrate the artistry of the work. Pay attention to the background content in each photo and make sure to light the needlepoint project adequately.

2. Write a succinct description of each needlepoint piece to accompany the photos. The descriptions should include the types of stitches and material used to create the project as well as the overall dimensions of the piece. Highlight anything that sets the needlepoint art apart from other handmade pieces. Include suggestions on use the finished piece, if it is not already incorporated into a pillow or other decorative item.

3. Register a domain name and create an e-commerce website to sell your needlepoint. Turn-key options are available for e-commerce sites, but you can also hire a designer for the project. Direct traffic to your website through Internet ads, link exchanges, article marketing and blogging.

4. List your needlepoint for sale on existing Internet sales sites. Two popular sites that specialize in handmade items are Etsy and Art Fire. Sales websites that focus on handmade products are a step above other Internet auction sites for making money from needlepoint; the customers who visit these sites often are searching for handmade arts and crafts.

5. Sell your needlepoint through Internet auction sites that offer a storefront option. Operating a storefront allows you to list all of your products in one place, similar to an e-commerce website. An auction storefront may be more expensive than operating your own e-commerce site, but auction storefronts offer the advantage of targeted traffic.

6. Set up a booth at craft shows to sell your needlepoint designs. Many small towns have craft shows at various times of the year; investigate upcoming shows in your area.

7. Make instructional videos to teach others needlepoint. Sell the instructional videos through your website or post them as part of a monetized blog or online video website. You can also make money teaching needlepoint at craft store workshops.
