Fundraising Ideas For Sports

Sports teams always need money for uniforms, equipment and travel expenses. There are a lot of ways to raise money for these expenses through traditional fundraising means or other creative ideas that won't compete with school and church fundraisers.

Services

Sports teams have athletes, kids and adults who are able to do a variety of activities. This makes fundraisers such as car washes, window washing or lawn mowing great service fundraisers. They can be fun and eventful and help promote healthy lifestyles and build integrity in a job well done. Car washes can be done in a parking lot or in conjunction with a local car-wash company. Window washing and mowing can be ongoing events that are marketed with fliers to the community.

Sponsorships

Talk to insurance agents, dentists or other local businesses about sponsoring the team. Many are willing to give $500-$1,000 to have their business name on the team shirt or a banner where the team plays. For the businessperson, this is a win-win situation in which they receive great promotion while doing something positive for the community and getting a tax deduction (if the team has a non-profit status).

Products

There are a lot of traditional fundraisers that sell products. A team can hold a bake sale or sell chocolate bars, cookie dough or other treats through a fundraising company. These are proven fundraisers but do often compete with school fundraisers using the same products. This can limit the amount that a team can raise.

Host a Camp

High school or college teams can raise money by holding a camp for younger kids on the skills and techniques needed to succeed in the sport. This is a great way to create a pipeline of talent that any community can be proud while raising funds. This can be a summer or winter camp or something as simple as an intensive weekend. Another way to utilize the skills of your team is to put on a pro-am type of event where those not playing for the team can sign up to play with or against players from the team. For teams with a great history, this is a great way to get your supporters involved in the success of the team while giving them a chance to learn or compete against you.
