Nowadays having a business website is becoming as important as having a phone number. The website will give more visibility and credibility to your business or organization. A website can be created with minimal expertise and at a low cost. You can build it yourself without having to learn a programming language and or paying thousands of dollars to Web designers and Web developers. You can promote the website yourself, too; this won't cost you much either.
Instructions
1. Get a domain name. Getting the domain name means registering the name you like with an organization called ICANN through a domain name registrar. Consult the Resources links for a list of the ICANN-accredited domain name registrars. Choose a registrar that also offers an online website builder. Review the costs and other features of a variety of registrars. They vary a lot.
Choose the domain name carefully, it is important for future promotion of your website in search engines. The ideal domain name should include your main keywords. The keywords are the the words people use while searching for your product.
2. Build a website using the website builder. The builder will offer a video tutorial or a step-by-step guide that will walk you through creating your website. You won't have to download any software. The online website builder will allow you to make the web pages directly through your browser. You will be able to update your website from anywhere, even from a public library computer.
3. Submit your new website to the major search engines: Google, Yahoo and Bing. Consult the Resources links for the page addresses.
4. Set up accounts with the social media sites: Facebook, Linkedin, Myspace and Twitter. Add information about yourself and your business, including a link to your website, on the user profile pages. This will create back-links. Back-links are incoming links to your website. In the search engine optimization world, the number of back-links is an important indication of the popularity of the website. The more back-links you have, the higher your website will show on the search engines.
5. Participate in discussion forums on other websites. There are many forums where you can add a link to your website as your signature. Look for forums that have the same theme or similar content topic as your own website. Back-links from these forums will have more value for search engines than back-links from unrelated forums.
6. Promote your website offline. Add the website address to your business card. Word of mouth promotion can be very effective. Tell your friends, colleagues and family about your new website.
