The back design of your CD is as important as the front cover.
The front cover of a compact disc is the first thing that potential customers and fans see when they find your CD. While the front of the disc entices them, the back of the disc clinches their final decision. When customers see a clear listing of the tracks or something unusual or funky, they're more likely to buy the disc. Use CD back cover ideas to pick the right design for your next CD.
Plain and Simple
One of the most basic designs for a back CD cover is a simple listing of all the tracks on the disc. When you opt for this type of display, write out the track listing in an easy-to-read font. Include the name and duration of each song on the back, following the arrangement of songs on the disc. Use a lighter colored font on a dark background or a dark font on a light background. Get feedback from others and ensure that the listing is easy to read and follow.
Extend the Front
For a funky CD design, use one picture as both the front and back of the case. When the customer puts the front and back photos together, it should look like one continuous image. For example, take a photo of the band standing out in the desert. Use the part of the photo with the band as the front cover and the rest of the photo with the desert beside them on the back cover. Superimpose the track listing directly on top of the image.
Band Photos
Fans identify the band with its songs, and you can help foster this connection by displaying images of the band on both sides of the CD. After picking the final image for the cover, pick a few different images that you also like. Shrink those images into smaller sizes and arrange the shots on the back. Tilt the shots at different angles, creating a mural effect, and place the track listing over top.
Mimic the Disc
Pick a funky design, such as a paisley print for the CD itself and use that same design on the back case. When the customer opens the case, he will quickly notice the similarities between the two. Use a plain colored background on the back of the case and put the patterned design on top. A small amount of the background will show through, keeping the design from looking too busy or overwhelming.
