True peace and happiness is the goal of everyone, but despite its desirability, is difficult to define. Most people agree that inner peace and happiness are a function of faith, which leads to a lack of stress and worry. Faith generally is associated with religion or a belief in something greater than one's self.
Instructions
1. Cultivate an understanding that true happiness and peace come from within a human being. Happiness and peace of mind is not predicated on money or material possessions or the love and affection of others. However, each can contribute to it.
2. Practice deep breathing and meditation. Read teachings that acknowledge both joy and suffering as temporary and universal life conditions. Partake of the non-theist philosophies and use what works.
3. Understand that life brings challenges, usually one after another. See challenges, trials and tribulations as opportunities to learn and grow. Believe that "this too shall pass."
4. Rejoice in the success, achievements and accomplishments of others. Set personal goals and monitor personal success by the meeting of goals, not by comparison to others. Be generous and kind.
5. Focus on personal development and growth without respect to how others define peace and happiness. Build healthy relationships based on self-love, confidence and purpose.
6. Create a health plan that includes nutritious eating, plenty of water and daily exercise. Read studies that show that exercise alleviate depression, increases health and creates a sense of well-being.
7. Explore religion to cultivate faith and belief in a Higher Power. Talk to friends, visit different churches and attend services and read about the beliefs and philosophies of each. Attend discussion groups and ask questions.
