A master's degree in education gives students a wide variety of career choices. Master's and doctorate graduates can go on to teach on all education levels, become counselors, work for education policy or work within school leadership, according to the Harvard University School of Education website. "U.S. News and World Report" magazine's 2010 rankings placed Vanderbilt University, Columbia University and Harvard University as the country's top-three graduate education programs.

Vanderbilt University, a private school located in Nashville, Tennessee, offers an excellent education graduate program. The Peabody College of Education and Human Development was ranked first in the nation on the "U.S. News & World Report" magazine's 2010 list. Peabody has been a top-ranked program for the past 15 years, according to the school's website. The college offers students a diverse education with world-class professors and research facilities. Columbia University is located on Manhattan's Upper West Side.


Columbia University, a private school in New York City, has the second-best graduate education school in the country, according to "U.S. News & World Report" magazine's 2010 rankings. The Teacher's College was founded in 1887 and has since been a competitive, top-ranked program. The college is divided into nine departments, including counseling and clinical psychology, curriculum and teaching and human development.
