Marketing Campaign Manager Job Description

Making sure that events are stocked with company give-aways is just one task of a marketing campaign manager.


To drive new business, companies must put together a marketing plan that targets specific markets and creates programs that address customer wants and needs. Marketing campaign managers are the professionals who work behind the scenes to plan, implement and track the success of marketing campaigns that funnel leads into their company's sales pipeline, and generate sales revenue.


Function


Marketing campaign managers ensure that marketing and sales programs are developed and executed in a timely fashion. Some of the duties of a marketing campaign manager include scheduling conferences and external client events, researching meeting space, handling vendor contracts, overseeing shipment of material and equipment and managing web development tasks to support online marketing initiatives. In addition, marketing campaign managers create and maintain sales and marketing reports that track and measure the success of marketing initiatives.


Education


Similar to other marketing management roles, marketing campaign managers should have at least a bachelor's degree in marketing, advertising, communication studies, business administration or a related field. Depending on the level of the role and skill needed in the position, some employers prefer candidates with a master's degree or MBA. Classes covering economics, marketing principles, statistics, business law, management, finance and mathematics are all helpful for a marketing campaign management career.


Skills


Since marketing campaign managers are primarily responsible for running marketing programs, event planning, organizational and multi-tasking skills are very important. These professionals must have excellent interpersonal, written and oral communciation skills, as well as experience working with different departments and levels within an organization. Proficiency with computer applications such as Microsoft Office and knowledge of a second or third foreign language are also valuable in marketing campaign manager roles.


Salary


According to PayScale, the average salary for an online marketing campaign manager ranged between $41,278 and $61,208. The total pay for the position, including bonuses, profit sharing and overtime, fell between $40,205 and $64,824. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reports that marketing managers in the U.S. earned a median salary of $108,580. Average compensation varies based on factors such as geographic region, job title, skill and education level, and industry.


Potential


The BLS "Occupational Outlook Handbook, 2010-11 Edition" reports that marketing managers will experience a 12% increase in jobs between 2008 and 2018. Employers will look to employ workers who are creative and knowledgeable about the latest advertising methods and marketing trends. As companies continue to introduce new services and products, marketing managers will be hired to devise new strategies for acquiring and retaining customers.
