Making Free Flyers

Flyers are effective for local direct marketing.

There are a variety of ways to make free flyers and depending on the graphic design skills of the designer, the flyers can be quite elaborate. Print shops may also design basic flyers for free if they will be printed with the shop. For a basic flyer, this may be a good option to consider. Otherwise, for high-quality professional-looking free flyers, a designer would have to use a graphic-design software program.

Instructions

1. Write the copy. Write down all the information the flyer needs to contain, such as address, website and phone number. The flyer should also contain some sales information, such as product specials, promotions, sales, product or services list. Write all the copy before designing the flyer.

2. Gather images. If the flyer requires any images, find them before starting to design the flyer. Some images to include on a flyer are photos of the products, store or happy customers. Images help make a flyer more attractive and eye catching.

3. Design the flyer using templates. A simple Internet search for "design a free flyer" will direct the searcher to a number of sites that provide free flyer-design software, some sites offer to print the complete flyer, also. These sites allow the user to customize templates and are quite user friendly. The user does not have to have broad technical knowledge.

4. Design the flyer using graphic-design software. Professional graphic-design software like Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe InDesign are ideal for designing a flyer. Adobe InDesign is the most ideal for designing a flyer. A full version of Adobe InDesign costs $699.00, however the program is available to try for free for 30 days. Download Adobe InDesign and install the program.

5. Open Adobe InDesign. On the main welcome screen, go to the "Create New" window then click "From Template". Select "Flyer" to see a list of template flyer designs, double click on the one which best suits the needs of the designer. Alternatively the designer can select "Create New Document" at the welcome screen and define the parameters of the file instead of choosing a template.

6. Design the flyer using Adobe InDesign. The program includes a helpful tutorial for new users. However, the program is fairly self explanatory. Make sure to include all of the pre-written copy and images. Make the flyer colorful and organized to help catch the reader's attention.
