Elementary School Graduation Cake Ideas
More and more schools are now holding elementary school graduation ceremonies as a way of marking this milestone in life, as well as to encourage children and inspire parental involvement. While most of the options for elementary school graduation cakes aren't all that different from graduation cakes for older individuals, you can make them more age-appropriate by using brighter, bolder colors and more kid-friendly decorations and candies.
Caps & Tassels
The classic graduation cap is always a good idea for an elementary school graduation cake. You can frost this onto a sheet cake with a congratulatory message, or build a 3-D cap. Use fondant for the top of the cap instead of cake so the corners don't fall. Consider using school colors for the cap and tassel, instead of the more formal black and gold.
You can also make a cake that looks like just a big tassel, using fondant to create the ridges and form the numbers of the year that are often attached to keepsake tassels. Lay this cake out on cardboard covered with thick paper and have guests sign the open space up near the tassel's string for a unique keepsake.
Scenes
You can create a number of different scenes on a plain white frosted sheet cake that are appropriate for an elementary school graduation. For example, make a little red school building out of fondant and set it on one corner of the cake. Then, make a middle school or high school building and have little fondant graduates walking from one to the other. Alternatively, put the little graduates on a school bus traveling away from the elementary school.

A very easy elementary school graduation cake idea is to decorate the cake to look like a graduation announcement or the same as the graduation party invitations. Scrolls are a popular choice for these kinds of cakes. You could also make a report card on the cake with all "A" and a congratulatory graduation message. Books or stacks of books, often with a graduation cap on top, are also very popular graduation cakes.
