1. Figure out what type of degree will work best for you. If you just want to gain some knowledge of the industry and be able to apply for entry level Internet marketing jobs, an associate's degree might be needed. A bachelor's degree in Internet marketing is needed for many positions, even entry level ones, and is generally required to move up in the field. High level management positions in the field might require a master's degree.

2. Talk with your academic adviser if you're still in high school . Your adviser can direct you toward universities that offer the type of Internet marketing degree you want to earn.

3. Meet with your employer if you're already in the workforce. Some employers will pay for employees to go back to college to earn advanced degrees like one in Internet marketing. You would then be able to bring the knowledge and skills back to the company. However, in this case, you might be limited to which universities you can attend for the degree.

4. Check the required coursework at the university you're considering. For an associate's degree, the coursework should cover the basics of Internet marketing, principles of marketing and advertising. A bachelor's degree can get into more advanced courses in marketing management, electronic marketing and brand marketing, and a master's degree get even more in depth, with classes in marketing strategy, marketing engineering, e-commerce and supply chain management.

5. Get real experience in Internet marketing while you earn your degree. This experience can be through an extracurricular activity, such as volunteering to help out with marketing the website for a campus group or club, or you can complete a formal internship with a local company.
