Great Salon Discount Ideas

Offer a discount on certain salon services.

When it comes to personal expenses, salon services are often among the first to be cut in a personal budget. To combat that, and keep a steady stream of customers filing into your salon, consider offering a few prominent discounts to new and existing customers. There are ways to partner discounts with other in-salon promotions that will build a buzz about your business.

Back-To-School Haircut Days

During the months of August and September, when kids are headed back to school, you can capitalize on their parents' desire to make sure their children look their best. Offer a blanket price for all student haircuts, such as $10 per cut. Not only will you be doing a community service for local schoolchildren, but also you may build a new clientele in their parents, who will have a chance to see your salon and work when they bring in their kids.

Buy One, Get One For A Friend

Ladies often enjoy going to the salon together, but perhaps one can afford a visit more than the other. Offer pairs a buy one, get one deal for simple hair services. For example, you may offer a buy one, get one free on haircuts, simple styling or other salon services, such as pedicures. This builds goodwill among your clientele, but also introduces new clients to your salon.

Offer Percentage Off On Multiple Services

Once clients purchase a certain type of service, offer them another free or for a deep discount. For example, if you have a client who books a complete range of hair services, throw in a free manicure/pedicure. If you have a client who comes into to cover her gray, offer to cut her hair and style it free of charge. The more you make customers feel as though they've saved money on their personal services, the more likely they are to make coming to your salon a priority.

Referral System

Provide rewards for clients who forward other people to you. You may choose to reward clients for referrals with simple services for free, such as a haircut or special styling. You can go more elaborate and offer something like a free massage -- if your salon offers that service -- for every five client referrals. Once a year, you may want to publicize a referral contest, where the person referring the most new business during a specific time receives a special prize, like six months of free services.
