Prepare For Pmi Certification

PMI certification requires a lot of study and preparation.

Candidates for Project Management Institute (PMI) certification must have completed at least 35 hours of project management classroom training and have a minimum of 4500 hours experience in the field. In order to become certified, practicing project managers must also pass the Project Management Professional (PMP) exam, which PMI has been offering since 1984. PMI has chapters around the globe, which provide thorough help in preparing for the exam.

Instructions

1. Review the PMI website to obtain information regarding exam preparation. PMI creates the exam, which is globally recognized. Download the PMP handbook and click on the "PMP Exam Prep Tips" to find the latest "Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK Guide)."

2. Read recommended books listed on the EdWell site (i.e., PMP Exam Prep, Sixth Edition: Rita's Course in a Book for Passing the PMP Exam) to give yourself more insight on the subject. Be sure to carefully review the texts and read them more than once if necessary. Focus on learning about inputs and outputs as mentioned in the PMBOK Guide. You will need to invest time in practice tests.

3. Form a study group consisting of other people planning to take the PMI certification exam. It can be a locally-based group that meets in a coffee shop or a virtual group that uses the Internet to compare notes and quiz each other. The goal is to pass each practice test section with at least 80 percent correct before attempting the certification exam. You can find people to work with from social networking sites like LinkedIn or Yahoo! Groups. Another option is to select people from your certification training class.

4. Invest in a preparation course to get more training on pass the certification exam. Refer to "Prepare For The PMP Exam" or the PMI to determine when and where there is an opportunity to get additional help. A course may be only offered a few times a year in your area, so you must plan ahead. Travel may be necessary.
