A conference room must be carefully planned and strategically designed. This room will be used for multiple purposes, ranging from serious business meetings and important presentations to sessions of creative brainstorming. When adding furniture to the room, be sure to keep all of these things in mind.
Chairs
Ergonomic chairs are a must. Anyone using the conference room will likely be sitting there for an extended period of time. It is not easy to concentrate on tough decisions or challenging issues when you are uncomfortable. Also, your corporate leaders and important clients will be both thankful and pleased, knowing their all-day meeting will not result in back pain that evening.
Table
The conference room table can be any shape and any material, so use whatever matches your office decor. The only requirement is that it is resilient enough to withstand years of fist pounding and multiple laptops and comfortably seats a minimum of 12 people.
Another nice touch would be to include openings that can be hidden in the top of the table to allow USB cables, phone cords and other such wires to be run from under the table instead of from a wall outlet. This will allow everyone to move freely around the room without tripping over wires or ripping the power cord from the wall in the middle of a presentation.
Additional Musts
At the bare minimum, include a table on one of the side walls for platters of food, a beverage station or a place to put handouts for a presentation or meeting. Other nice touches include a small coat closet for briefcases and suit jackets and a cabinet to store multimedia equipment when not in use. Depending on the size of your conference room, choose any extra furniture carefully, as you want to keep an open, airy-feeling in the room instead of overcrowding it.
