Auto Repair Shop Tools

Auto repair shops require many tools.

Automotive shops are filled with essential tools for design, deconstruction and repair. Tools may be manual devices that are hand operated and small enough to fit in your pocket. Automatic tools are often battery powered and make labor efficient. Alternative tools are required to provide power to automatic equipment and for keeping tools clean and organized.

Manual Tools

Manual tools are the cornerstone to mechanical labor. Auto body shops use a number of handheld tools, including wrenches, pliers and screwdrivers. Wrenches are used for firm gripping where objects can be clasped or released by adjusting the cylinder knob on the center of the device. Pliers are often made with stainless steel teeth and insulated handles and are used to cut or splice electrical wire. Flat-head and Phillips-head screwdrivers are available in various lengths for loosening and or tightening screws on automobile parts.

Automatic Tools

With automatic tools, laborers can accomplish more work in less time. Power drills, for example, operate on battery power or can be plugged into any standard outlet. Drills can be fitted with various kinds of bits and include a trigger locking device that prevents the drill from running. Hoisting devices --- such as car jacks --- may be manual or automatic. Hydraulic jacks, for example, are positioned under vehicle axles to lift one or both end of the car at a time.

Miscellaneous Tools

Miscellaneous equipment can be as important as manual or automatic tools. Extension chords, for example, are manufactured in various lengths to provide a power source to automatic tools that cannot rely on battery power. Pocket flashlights are handy tools when working under cars or buried deep in the dark enclaves of an engine. Most pocket flash lights are either push-button operated or can turned on and off by rotating the flashlight head. Tool belts are also critical pieces of equipment for carrying many tools at once. Tool belts include adjustable straps, multiple pockets and a drill gun holder.
