Use Free Website Promotion

One of the biggest challenges of creating a new website is getting traffic. If your budget is low, you might feel helpless when it comes to website promotion. But there are many ways to promote your website that are free or very low-cost. Here are some tips to get free website promotion.

Instructions

1. Join forums on topics related to your website focus. Participate in forum discussions and add a link to your website in your signature. Be careful not to spam forums. You must become a contributing member of the forum, not just an annoying person who posts links.

2. Try traffic referral websites such as LinkReferral (see the Resources section below for a direct link). These websites drive traffic to your website when you view other members' websites. This system can increase views to your site, but may not be quality traffic.

3. Answer questions on Yahoo! Answers (see the Resources section below for a direct link) that are related to your website topic. Again, be careful not to spam. Provide a link to your website only after you have given a quality answer to the question.

4. Promote your website in your community. Design and print flyers to post and pass out at locations realted to your website topic. For example, if your website is about children's activities, ask local daycare centers to leave your flyers by the front door for parents and teachers. Make sure you get permission before passing out flyers at local events.

5. Search the internet for websites that compliment your website, and contact the webmaster about link exchange possibilities. For example, if you promote a certain product on your website, contact the webmaster for the product's website. Ask them to link to your website in exchange for a link to their website.

6. Write articles related to your website topic and publish them at article directories such as EzineArticles (see the Resources section below for a direct link) and put a link to your website in your EzineArticles bio. EzineArticles allows others to republish the articles on other websites as long as they keep your bio information at the bottom of the article.

7. Use social networking sites like Digg.com (see the Resources section below for a direct link). These sites can drive traffic to interesting websites. Make sure you are an active participant in the site. Spamming these sites with links is a waste of time.
