How Do Advertising Sponsorships Work

A marathon is a sporting event that can involve sponsorship from several companies.


Advertising has a wide range of outlets, from 30-second spots during a television program to magazines ads, to Internet ads. Another way to advertise while giving back to the community is through advertising sponsorships. A company can sponsor sporting events, charitable organizations or events, as well as individuals who are trying to raise funds for certain reasons. These types of sponsorships can be a win-win situation for all parties involved.


Sponsorship Basics


Through advertising sponsorships, a charity, organization or event sponsor can get money or other goods in exchange for publicity. This publicity can manifest itself in several ways. A sponsoring company can display its logo for a specified amount of time on banners, in various literature or other forms of public advertisement. In exchange, the event or charity gets much-needed donations to help their cause. As long as the parties agree to the same terms and conditions, advertising sponsorships can be beneficial for all involved.


Sporting Events


Many companies will sponsor sporting events because they can get a large amount of people to see their advertising and logo, which can lead to more sales and profit. For example, a corporation may offer an advertising sponsorship to a football team because they wish for their advertising to be displayed to the supporters of that particular team. This can range from a peewee football team to professional football teams that play in front of thousands of supporters. Companies can also sponsor the building or field where a team plays, ensuring their logo is displayed at each game.


Charities


Charities may have numerous donors, and there are companies that want to advertise to these donors. In this case, companies will sign advertising sponsorship deals with such a charity so they can get their message out to the donors. In exchange, they may promise a certain amount of money or supplies to help the charity's cause. These agreements can be short- or long-term. The charity gets much-needed capital or supplies, and the company shows that they care about their community, which is beneficial to both parties.


Mailing/Donor Lists


Sometimes, a company will sign an advertising sponsorship that includes access to the donor list of a charity or organization. Having access to this type of list means the company has a list of specific people who may appreciate their advertising or products. However, not all donors may appreciate this advertising method. If you are a donor, make sure the charities or companies you donate to have a privacy agreement that does not allow for this type of sponsorship. If they do, make sure you opt out of such advertising, so that your information may never be sold in such a way.
