Retail Store Shelves & Fixtures

Retail shelves use baskets to display merchandise.

Ron Bond, author of Retail in Detail, explains that appearance in the retail industry is important. To be successful, a great deal of planning and strategy must be used in displaying merchandise. Retail store shelves and fixtures are the key to successfully displaying products. (See Reference 2.)

General Display

Retail store shelves and fixtures display store merchandise. The shelves and fixtures generally organize the items while providing the price and product model number near the product.

Gondola Shelving

Gondola shelving is a two-sided display unit. The shelving is known as the "workhorse" in the retail industry. It's generally made of steel with pegboard, gridwall, or slatwall backs that support the merchandise. (See Reference 1.)

Wall and End Units

A wall unit is used against an empty wall. An end unit is used at the end of a gondola shelving. Both units may be customized or purchased in standard dimensions and colors. They display merchandise on shelves, hooks, baskets, or dividers.
