Identify Marketing Operational Objectives

Marketing operations are day-to-day promotional activities targeted toward increasing brand and product awareness in the target market. Marketing operations are executed through communication channels such as press releases and face-to-face interactions with existing and potential customers. Marketing operational objectives are therefore the specific performance targets that organization intends to achieve from its routine marketing functions. This involves allocating duties, enhancing communication processes, gathering data, measuring efficiency, preparing reports and analyzing the outcome of marketing activities.


Instructions


1. Brainstorm ideas about the viability of the prevailing and new operational approaches to define the scope and targets of the marketing function. This can be done either individually or collectively by members of the marketing department. Some viable marketing operational approaches may include conducting departmental meetings, harmonizing individual and team duties and setting periodical performance targets.


2. Conduct a market survey to gauge the needs, tastes and preferences of customers. This will enable you to prioritize your marketing operational objectives according to the prevailing and future market conditions. Simplify the marketing survey process by conducting online surveys through emails, social media and marketing websites.


3. Short-list the most viable ideas as identified through the brainstorming process and market surveys. Transform these ideas into objectives by specifying the actions that you will undertake to fulfill the ideas. The objective for a marketing exhibition, for example, could be "to interact with customers and increase awareness about the unique features of a product."


4. Prepare a budget and allocate resources to the different marketing activities. Budget items may include transport costs, salaries, advertising costs and costs for materials and equipment.
