Healthcare Marketing Tips

Pharmaceutical companies use face-to-face interactions as a marketing strategy.


Health care marketing is the promotion of health-related products and services. Examples of health care marketers include pharmaceutical companies, hospitals, health care professionals and nutraceutical companies. Health care companies market their products and services through a wide range of marketing mediums, including print-, web- and mobile-based channels. Try several different types of marketing, and measure which ones work best for your company.


Send a Newsletter


Newsletters are a great way for health care companies to connect with their audiences. Hire a copywriter and graphic designer to create an attractive email- or print-based newsletter that you can send to current and prospective customers. Include information about the benefits to your customers, or "what's in it for them." For example, if you are a physician, you can send a monthly newsletter to all your patients that includes tips for healthy living, exercise and regular checkups.


Create Search Engine Marketing Ads


Search engine marketing, also known as SEM, is creating targeted ads that appear on search engine pages when people search for specific key words. Identify several key words that your customer might be searching for. Then, create an ad that contains a headline with that keyword, several benefit statements to your prospective customer, and a call to action, which is what you want the reader to do after seeing your ad. For example, if you own a nutrition and weight loss supplement company, your customers may search for "weight loss pills." You could develop an ad with a headline that says "Weight loss pills -- buy one, get one free." Then you would identify some benefits: "lose 5 pounds in 10 days" or "try our product free." Finally, close the ad with a call to action like "Click on the link to learn more."


Go Social


Social media marketing is connecting with your customers through social websites like Facebook. Create a Facebook page about your health care business, and provide information that is important to your customers and special deals and discounts for "fans" of your page.


Give Samples


Give free samples of your health care products or services. Many health care companies give away samples: pharmaceutical companies provide samples for doctors to give to patients; vitamin companies give away free samples to potential customers; and doctors and dentists may provide a free initial consultation to new patients.


Speak at Industry Conferences


Search for conferences that relate to your health care business, then contact the conference producers and ask to be featured as a guest speaker. Use your knowledge to provide insight into a particular topic relevant to your industry. It is a great way to connect with potential customers and build rapport within your industry.
