Register To Stop Telemarketers From Calling You

The National Do Not Call Registry is the first place to go to stop telemarketing calls.

You can use The Federal Trade Commission's National Do Not Call Registry service if you want to limit telemarketing calls. You need to register the residential phone number or personal cell phone number for which you do not want to receive telemarketing calls. Upon your registration, telemarketers bound by the FTC's Telemarketing Sales Rule must stop making calls to your registered number(s). If your number has been on the registry for a period of 31 days and you are still receiving telemarketing calls, you can file a complaint with the FTC.

Instructions

1. Learn about calls not covered under FTC's Telemarketing Sales Rule. The rule does not cover business to business calls and calls made directly by charities and political organizations, or polls and surveys done on their behalf. Also not covered are calls from a company you have an existing business relationship with, and calls from companies that have your permission to call.

2. Go to the National Do Not Call Registry website's registration page. Read the registration steps provided and proceed to register your number.

3. Enter the phone number(s) in the appropriate box. Do not use periods or spaces. You can, however, use or exclude dashes while entering numbers. Provide the appropriate area code in the box provided. You can register a maximum of three phone numbers.

4. Provide your e-mail address in the appropriate box. Double-check the address because a correct entry is essential to process your registration. Confirm your e-mail ID by typing it again in the "Confirm Email Address" space.

5. Check the details once again to ensure you have given correct information. Click "Submit." You will land on a page that allows you to recheck your information. If you find the information correct, click "Register" or else click "Change."

6. Check your inbox for an e-mail from Register@donotcall.gov. Open this message and click the link provided to complete the registration process. Click this link within 72 hours; otherwise, your number will not be registered.

7. Call 1-888-382-1222, alternatively, to register with the FTC. Just make a call to this number from the number you want to register.
