Avoid The Latest Credit Card Scam

avoid credit card fraud. Here is a heads up on the latest VISA/MasterCard scam that is happening right now.

Instructions

1. You receive a call from someone who says they are calling from the security and fraud department at Visa or Mastercard. They say your card has been flagged because of an unusual purchase pattern. They ask you if you purchased such and such from a certain company in a location they specify. Naturally you say no.

2. They tell you that a credit will be issued to your account and sent to your current address which they state and ask you to verify. Next they give you a file number and ask you to call the 800 number on the back of your card if you have any further questions.

3. Now the caller asks you if you are in possession of your card and could you please tell them the 3 digit security code on the back of your card so they can verify that your card was not lost or stolen. After you give the 3 numbers the caller will agree with you and hang up.

You have just given out the only piece of information the scammer was missing, those last 3 digits on your credit card. Since they already have your card number, with those 3 digits, they can make online purchases using your account information.
