Make Your Own Cheap Personalized Pencils

Personalized pencils can help brighten a student's day.

Making personalized pencils as gifts for students or teachers can help brighten their day, or help take some of the drudgery out of a standardized test. Instead of ordering pencils with someone's name on them, you can make this affordable gift yourself. You can even add designs that reflect the person's hobby or school colors. The materials are easily found if not already in your craft supplies.

Instructions

1. Cover the workspace in newspaper and assemble all of the materials. Stick a couple of pieces of the modeling clay between the pencil and the paper to secure the pencil while you work.

2. Paint the name toward the end of the pencil, near the eraser, using the acrylic paint and one of the brushes. This will keep the name from being sharpened off during use. Touch the paint brush to a paper towel to soak up excess paint to prevent drips and streaking. Let the paint dry before adding accents.

3. Choose a different paint color to make a shadow effect on the name or put dots on the corners and ends of the letters. This is detailed work in a small space, so keep it simple.

4. Spray the personalized pencil with the clear acrylic spray sealant to help keep your artwork from rubbing off with use. Cover the eraser with the aluminum foil before spraying or it won't be usable. Let the pencil dry for 15 minutes before handling.
