Promotional Techniques & Materials

Signage and sales are two ways of promoting your business and services.

If you need to give a new product or service a boost, use promotions as another way to market your business. Promotional techniques are those aimed at sending the message out to a targeted audience. Offering discounts and gifts with purchase are common techniques that are effective, and there are additional ways to draw attention and promote your brand with flair.

Promotional Models

Promo models are often used by restaurants, liquor companies, or sports teams to build their brands.

For specialty events like a grand opening or private reception, recruit a team of models to serve as greeters, information clerks or cheerleaders for your brand. You can use promotional models to provide on-site services such as welcoming guests and handing out balloons and cotton candy, or brochures about your business. You can also train models to talk more intelligently about your products and services. Promotional models can be found by posting an ad in campus newspapers, online model sites, or simply asking a few colleagues to lend a hand. You can contact college business departments for marketing students and hold a casting call for models. Promo models should match the personality of your business by both looking and acting the part to match the personality of your business.

Open House/Tour

Similar to a grand opening, planning an open house gives potential customers the chance to come to your location to see the product or service in operation. Rea-estate agents often use this technique to invite potential buyers or leasers to view a property. Common uses of this type of promotion are by realtors who in are the business of having patrons view a property. This technique also works for galleries eager to promote and sell art work. Gyms, restaurants, retail boutiques, and spa salons can also benefit from this promotional tool. During the open house, use complimentary food and drinks to attract customers.

Host a press conference

Hold a press conference to get the word out to the media.

Hosting a press conference to relay a message to the media is a common and powerful promotional tool. Attention-grabbing events include: unveiling of a new product, releasing information on award winners, or the appointment of a new management team. Other newsworthy items could include a human-interest story on how the business was created, the naming of a new wing in a building, or the visit by a celebrity, political figure, or well-known community personality. For a press conference, always prepare a press kit that contains information on your company, services, and upcoming events, plus links to photographic images or videos.
