Think of small, inexpensive items to give your staffers around special times.
When money is tight, you might not be able to afford a large, expensive gift for each of your staff members at work. And if you have a large staff, expensive gifts definitely might not make sense financially. But there are many small, thoughtful gift items you can purchase for your staffers. Try to think of a gift that will work for all of your employees rather than coming up with individual gifts for each person.
Day Off
Give your staff members each a coupon for a paid day off, with a week's notice. Lots of companies are tightening their belts, working with fewer employees and restricting vacation days. So reward your employees with a free day off.
While this gift isn't something that costs the company anything more than getting through a day with fewer staffers, it will mean a lot to busy workers. If there is a particular day or week that you really do need all employees around because of a deadline or event, exempt that week from the day off pool.
Basket
Give each employee a basket full of fruit or snack items. If you order the baskets from a local company, you might get a discount for buying in bulk.
Choose ripe, seasonal fruits if you want a fruit basket. If you go with a snack basket, choose potato chips, nuts, chocolates and other items most people like to snack on.
If you are good in the kitchen and you don't have a large number of staff members, cook something for them yourself. Create baskets full of brownies, sugar cookies or fudge.
Picture Frame
Pick up some picture frames at a local store. You can often find picture frames that are cute, yet inexpensive. Your staff members can put pictures of their family members or friends in the frames and leave them on their desks.
Maybe you are creative and don't have a large number of staffers. Choose plain wooden frames at a craft store and personalize them for each employee. You could paint designs on them or paint their initials on them.
Gift Certificates
Go with gift certificates that cost a modest amount of money. For example, give each employee a gift card for tickets to the local movie theater or a local museum.
You could also give gift cards to a local mall that are redeemable at any store at the shopping center.
Or choose gift certificates to a local restaurant.
