Market A New Flavor Of Ice Cream

Marketing a new ice cream flavor doesn't have to be just about giving out samples.

Marketing any product, including a new ice cream flavor, can be done in different ways. From online teasers to get people to come in to your store to bringing samples to the streets for people to try, you're sure to find a way that will work for your company.

Marketing Plan

1. Create a marketing plan. Decide if you want it to be an online campaign done through a social media network such as Facebook or Twitter, or if you'd like it to be street-based, going around the local neighborhoods giving passersby tastes of the new flavor. You can even incorporate both ideas into your plan. Come up with descriptions describing the flavor of the ice cream and inform your employees so they all use the same descriptors. The description should be brief to keep the attention of passersby. You don't want to take up too much of their time but you do want to get your point across and make a connection.

2. Log on to the social media networking sites for your company. If you do not have an account, create a free account by logging onto Facebook.com or Twitter.com. If you already have a Facebook or Twitter account for your ice cream shop, start updating the Facebook status on your profile page or tweeting on Twitter about the new flavor. Make mention that customers who they say they saw your advertisement on either of these sites get a scoop for free. This free sample idea will aid you in calculating how many people your ads are reaching.

3. Bring the new flavor of ice cream to the street along with taste-testing spoons. Also bring business cards or small postcards to hand out. The business cards or postcards should provide the name of the ice cream shop, the address, hours of operation, a phone number, and if room permits a list of the available flavors.
