Instructions
1. Wash and condition your hair as you normally would, then towel try with a soft, terrycloth towel. You want your hair damp, but not dripping wet, for the cut. Comb out any tangles and use a detangler if needed.
2. Flip your head forward and comb hair to smooth it out, gently pulling your comb from the scalp toward the floor. Gather the hair, with your head still flipped over, and use a comb to smooth out any bumps as you gather it into a ponytail at the very top of your crown. Secure your hair atop your crown with an elastic hair band.
3. Grab your ponytail in one hand and decide how much length you want cut off. If you don't want a lot of length cut off, then plan to cut the hair just 1 inch from the end of your ponytail. If you'd like more length cut off, cut accordingly from the end of your ponytail. Remember that it's always best to go slowly and cut off only a few inches at a time to ensure you don't cut too much hair.
4. Take your haircutting shears and grasp the end of your ponytail in between your index and middle finger. Pull the end through your fingers at the desired length you wish to cut, Cut the hair across, using your fingers as a guide to ensure it is a straight cut.
5. Release your hair from the ponytail and examine the results, combing out your hair to see how the layers fall. If you decide you want your hair shorter, pull it back up and cut off a few more inches. Once you're done cutting, style your hair as usual.
