Top Ten Advertising Agencies

The top agencies are finding innovative ways to advertise products and services to consumers.


According to the 2009 Advertising Age Agency Report, revenues for ad agencies in the United States dropped 7.5 percent in 2009, one of the largest declines in the history of the industry. Despite these dire figures in the U.S., there are several agencies that are pulling in hundreds of millions of dollars or more in annual profits worldwide. And here's another reason to believe advertising is here to stay: AdBrands.net estimates that global ad expenditures will increase to $145 billion in 2010.


Dentsu


Dentsu, a Japanese advertising conglomerate based in Tokyo, was the top ad agency in the world in 2009, pulling in just over $3 billion in revenue according to Advertising Age. With a client roster that includes iconic brands like Phillips, Toyota, Microsoft, Major League Soccer and Canon, it's no wonder Dentsu is the top agency in the world.


McCann WorldGroup


McCann WorldGroup, which includes McCann Erickson Worldwide, MRM Worldwide and Weber Shandwick, brought in $2.67 billion in revenue in 2009. McCann's extensive client list includes AT&T Communications, NASA, ABC, Paramount, Chrysler Corporation and Disney.


Young and Rubicam Brands


Young and Rubicam Brands includes companies like Y&R, Wunderman and Sudler & Hennessey. They earned $2.65 billion in revenue in 2009. Their client list includes Bimbo, Bonafont, Colgate Palmolive, Danone, Lincoln and Ford.


DDB Worldwide Communications Group


DDB Worldwide Communications Group, whose network of companies includes DDB Worldwide, Rapp and Interbrand, earned $2.22 billion in revenue in 2009. DDB's roster of client includes brands like Bud Light, Volkswagen, McDonald's, Clorox, Johnson & Johnson and ExxonMobil.


Ogilvy & Mather


Ogilvy & Mather earned $1.75 billion in 2009, according to Advertising Age. They develop advertising materials for brands like IBM, American Express and Kodak.


BBDO Worldwide


BBDO Worldwide, whose network of companies includes BBDO, Proximity and Organic, earned $1.67 billion in 2009. BBDO has been around since 1891, and won "Network of the Year" at Cannes for the third year in a row in 2009. Their clients include The Economist, Pepsi, IKEA, FedEx and General Electric.


TWBA Worldwide


TWBA Worldwide also has several companies under its' advertising umbrella, include TWBA, Zimmerman and Tequila. They grossed $1.51 billion worldwide in 2009. TWBA create advertising for brands like Absolut Vodka, Haagen-Dazs and Taco Bell.


Euro RSCG Worldwide


Euro RSCG Worldwide brought in $1.2 billion in 2009. The agency works with brands like Bayer, Purina Mills, Sears, and Dun & Bradstreet.


DRAFTFCB


DRAFTFCB is a New York-based advertising agency that earned $1.17 billion in 2009. Their clients include Boeing, Citigroup, Pfizer, Dow Chemical Co., Kraft Foods, S.C. Johnson and the United States Census Bureau.


JWT


Rounding out the top ten advertising agencies is JWT, also known as J. Walter Thompson. They earned $1.12 billion in 2009, and feature a client roster of well-known brands such as Nestl , Macy's, Kellogg, Microsoft and the United States Marine Corps.
